We of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) are sometimes referred to as the people of the parentheses, referring to the defining phrase "Disciples of Christ" being enclosed in parentheses.  The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is one of the largest churches founded in the early 19th century on American soil.  Our denomination now numbers more than 1,000,000 members.

Member congregations own their own property, manage their own finances, determine their own program and employ their own staff.  Each is linked to the others by volunteer cooperation and moral force, having regional and national offices.

The "Disciples of Christ" are related to over 30 higher education institutions.  We operate several children's and retirement homes.  Our ministry also includes other foreign and local programs.  Some of our local and world-wide outreach programs include Basic Mission Finance, Week of Compassion, Reconciliation, World Day of Prayer, Community Relief Fund/Salvation Army, Community Church Services (Christmas Eve, Easter, Thanksgiving), "Wish Upon A Star" Project, and offering our facilities for use by Community Groups such as AA, Al Anon Family Support and Alateen, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, American Red Cross and others.  A number of our members are actively involved in many other community projects such as Habitat for Humanity.
